Roswell Museum To Exhibit Paintings of Imaginary Satellites By Kelly Newcomer

ROSWELL—"All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace," a solo painting exhibit by Kelly Newcomer, will be on display May 3 - July 7 at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 West 11th Street, Roswell, New Mexico, 505-624-6744.

Newcomer, an artist at the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program will be present for an artist’s lecture at 4 p.m. and a gallery reception from 5:30-7p.m. on Friday, May 3rd. She will also talk about “Satellites in Everyday Life” during the UFO Festival, Saturday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Roswell Museum and Art Center.

The artist will be exhibiting some of her small daily paintings on paper and also some larger oils on canvas. All the works are paintings and drawings of imaginary satellites. The artist is intrigued by the unseen presence of satellites in everyday life. The high-tech solar panels and outreaching antennae become fantastic, candy-colored and toylike with the artist’s rendering.

Newcomer says of her art, "Communications machines are evolving at an exponential rate. They are like space invaders in that people are incorporating computers and other information/communication machines into their personal spaces. There is also a human connection to the machines in space. Satellites are the cornerstone that allow for global communication. They send down waves of information that cover the land and penetrate us. I am interested in the allure of these communications machines and their integration into our lives."

Regular museum hours: Monday-Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday and Holidays: 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
